Post-translation Quality Assurance
G3 Translate often performs quality checks on materials previously translated by other agencies or translators. These services may include translation review, online QA and/or back translation, depending on your needs.
For a successful translation review the project manager at G3 Translate selects a qualified translator based on the project specifications, language specialization and subject matter expertise required by the content of the translated document. The reviewer compares the translated text to the source text, ensures that content has been properly and completely translated, that terminology is suitable to the target audience, and ensures that the text flows smoothly and is natural sounding in the target language. If formatting tags and/or programming codes appear in the text, the reviewer will ensure that they have not been altered and, in the case of the formatting tags, that they appear properly positioned to result in matching formatting in both the source and target texts. Subjective changes are generally avoided unless they are required to maintain consistency in terminology and style with the rest of the document. Edits made by the reviewer may be made directly in the MS Word document utilizing the ‘Track Changes’ function and/or the ‘Comments’ function, and, if required, may also be provided in a separate form in which the change is indicated along with a justification for making/suggesting the edits to the document. Once the review has been completed, the project manager will examine the changes made by the reviewer to ensure that they have been made according to your requirements and that formatting tags and programming codes are intact.
Once the translated versions of web-based documents, surveys or web pages have been uploaded to your staging server, the project manager will engage a qualified translator based on the project specifications, language specialization and subject matter expertise required by the content of the translated content to perform the online QA. This step is critical to ensure that the content has loaded properly and that it appears correctly online, that links and programming logic function and that the online experience is a user-friendly one. This review may be carried out in conjunction with the translation review and when this is the case, the same quality parameters for translation review are employed. In addition, the reviewer ensures that all special characters and fonts appear correctly on screen and that no text has been lost during the upload. Upon completion of the online QA, a report is provided to indicate which corrections, if any, need to be made. When required, the reviewer will also make changes to the programming file and document them in a separate form. The project manager will review all changes, ensure that changes have been documented as required and spot check the online content.
