Working for the market research translation industry has definitely been the right choice since it involves many of the skills that I learned in college. As a project coordinator, my goal is to make sure that our clients are satisfied with the quality of our translations and giving them quick and efficient solutions.
My dream is to be able to speak more languages than the number of fingers that I have. I can already fluently speak English and three major Philippine languages (Tagalog, Hiligaynon and Cebuano) because I grew up in a multilingual household. I studied Japanese because I wanted to watch anime without subtitles and Spanish because I wanted to be able to visit a Latin American country alone. My next goal is to conquer the German language.
I am very fond of traveling to new places and I’ve already collected more than fifteen refrigerator magnets from cities that I’ve visited outside of New York.
I have always had a passion for language. Having grown up a native bilingual (English/Spanish) has been an amazing yet challenging experience. Facing the everyday challenges that any child of immigrants does, translation has always been at the heart of my life. From reading letters to my parents to attending doctors’ appointments, code-switching and the responsibility that comes with it, has taught me to love language and all that it entails.
This love of language has followed me through my college career, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics (along with a double minor in French/Russian). I also was a research assistant in college, studying how bilingual children in the US deal with learning two languages simultaneously. A study that I worked on passionately, where I was able to see a process, which I personally went through as a child, unfold in front of me.
All of these experiences, along with my love of language, help me every day in providing the highest quality translations to our clients.
